چکیده

The sulfonamidohelicene tetramer changes its structure between a random-coil and a helix-dimer, by which molecular thermal hysteresis appears. Mixing experiments on helix-dimer and random-coil solutions and kinetic analysis show that the transition from the random-coil to the helix-dimer involves self-catalysis by the helix-dimer.

Equilibrium crossing exhibited by an ethynylhelicene (M)-nonamer during random-coil-to-double-helix thermal transition in solution.

The structural change between the random-coil and the double-helix of an ethynylhelicene (M)-nonamer during heating crosses equilibrium. This is a phenomenon where a chemical reaction crosses equilibrium and returns to equilibrium. It is due to an accelerated rate of formation of the double-helix by self-catalysis and an equilibrium shift.

Molecular dynamics studies on the denaturation of polyalanine in the presence of guanidinium chloride at low concentration

Molecular dynamic simulation is a powerful method that monitors all variations in the atomic level in explicit solvent. By this method we can calculate many chemical and biochemical properties of large scale biological systems. In this work all-atom molecular dynamics simulation of polyalanine (PA) was investigated in the presence of 0.224, 0.448, 0.673, 0.897 and 1.122 M of guanidinium chlorid...

Effect of Loop Entropy on the Helix-Coil Transition of a-Helical, Two-Chain, Coiled Coils

The theory of the a-helix to random coil transition in two-chain, coiled coils is extended to include the effect of loop entropy. To ascertain the conditions under which loop entropy is important, expressions are derived with the neglect of loop entropy for the ratio (R) of the number of residues that are part of randomly coiled runs at the chain ends to the total number of randomly coiled resi...

Multiple competing pathways for chemical reaction: drastic reaction shortcut for the self-catalytic double-helix formation of helicene oligomers.

Competition among multiple pathways in a chemical reaction exhibits notable kinetic phenomena, particularly when amplification by self-catalysis is involved. A pseudoenantiomeric 1 : 1 mixture of an aminomethylene helicene (P)-tetramer and an (M)-pentamer formed enantiomeric hetero-double helices B and C in solution when random coil A was cooled. When a solution of A at 70 °C was directly coole...

Helix-Coil Transitions of a-Helical, Two-Chain, Coiled Coils

A theory of the helix-coil transition for in-register, two-chain, a-helical, coiled coils such as tropomyosin and paramyosin is developed. The treatment differs from those formulated previously for DNAor collagen-like double helices; in the present treatment, isolated single chains and each of the two strands in the dimer may be partially helical. We calculate the fraction of helix in the two-c...
